Accepting New Patients: What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Welcome to Walden Square Dental! We’re so excited to be serving the families of our community with high-quality, comprehensive dental care. New patients are always welcome at our Cheektowaga dentist office, but you might be wondering what to expect at your first appointment with us. Here’s a look at how a typical new patient appointment goes with our team.

Checking In

We recommend that you arrive for your new patient visit about 15 minutes early so you can fill out your new patient paperwork. Once you’re done, we’ll call you back quickly to begin the appointment.

Getting to Know You

We start by going over your medical and dental history to make sure we don’t have any additional questions or concerns. Our hygienist will also go over any questions or concerns you have about your teeth. We want to make sure we completely understand your goals for your smile before we get started. Even if you think it’s a small thing, let us know so we can make a note of it. This is the time when we also take any necessary X-rays, too.

The Exam & Cleaning

Once we’ve had a chance to talk and get to know you a bit, we’ll get started on the real reason you’re here: your teeth! Our hygienist will start by cleaning out any plaque and tartar from between your teeth and along your gumline. Plaque and tartar build up after debris and bacteria have a chance to sit in your mouth for a while. Even people who brush regularly need some amount of cleaning, so don’t get worried that you’re not taking care of your teeth.

After the hygienist has cleaned off the plaque and tartar, Dr. Kakkar will come in to do an exam. She’ll look over your X-rays and speak with the hygienist about any concerns that we noted during the cleaning. Dr. Kakkar will also talk with you about any of your questions or concerns. If she has any concerns or treatment recommendations, she’ll go over those with you at this time.

Before we send you on your way, the hygienist will polish your teeth using a flavored, abrasive polishing paste. After a quick flossing, you’re all done!

Special Circumstances

Some patients may need to begin treatment or have a procedure done right away at their new patient visit. If we note decay that requires a filling or we need to begin fitting a patient for a crown, we may be able to get that done at the same visit so you don’t have to come back later.

A Quick Summary

All told, your new patient visit will last a bit longer than a typical cleaning and exam. Expect to spend about an hour and a half with us once you’re in the dental chair, so long as nothing unexpected comes up.

If you’d like to find out more about our financial options, call our office before your appointment and speak with one of our friendly team members. They’re always happy to help you make sure that quality dental care fits into your family’s budget! Ready to schedule your new patient appointment?
